The Advantage of Adversity

10:00am Daily on Presentation Stage 1

Life doesn’t always go to plan. And when the unexpected hits, most people just try to survive it. This keynote is about something different – how the hard thing, like life altering disability, can become the advantage you’ve been looking for all along.

Bart Walsh knows this ground firsthand. He survived cancer at 23, lost his firstborn son, and lives with a degenerative nervous system condition. Not stories told for sympathy, but the foundation of a framework that turns challenge into growth.

It starts with one question: when the hard thing arrives, how do you show up? The instinct is to run. But the better team, the better you… they live on the other side of the hard thing. So we don’t run from it. We run straight at it.

From there, three principles, told through Bart’s own experience:

Own Your Circumstance. Stop arguing with the fact that it’s here.

Take full possession of where you actually stand.

Seek Discomfort. Growth doesn’t live in a comfortable place. Stepping out of your comfort zone is a choice, and it gives your team direction.

Love Your Fate. There are things we can’t control. Rather than staying stuck, open your arms and love it. Only then can your thoughts and actions work with it.

Done consistently, these three turn any challenge into an opportunity for real growth.
